The provincial finals have wrapped up and we have four new winners. Congratulations to Tumbler Ridge, B.C., Edson, Alberta, Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan and Flin Flon, Manitoba. These results mean there won’t be a repeat winner from previous competitions. Regardless of how things play out from here, we will crown a brand new SledTown ShowDown champion.

We now move into the semi-finals. Which two provincial finalists will advance to the championship next round?

Here are a few of the highlights from Round 4:

  • Talk about a nailbiter. B.C.’s battle between Tumbler Ridge and Sicamous couldn’t have been any closer. Tumbler Ridge (11,611 votes, 51 per cent) outlasted previous SledTown ShowDown champion Sicamous (11,236 votes, 49 per cent). Over 22,000 votes were tallied in this provincial final alone!
  • Alberta’s duel was ridiculously close as well. Edson (4,252 votes, 51 per cent) rallied in the last few days of the competition to come from behind and snatch a victory away from Fox Creek (4,061 votes, 49 per cent). It could be another tight contest when Edson takes on Tumbler Ridge in the semi-finals.
  • Hudson Bay (1,412 votes, 62 per cent) created space early on between itself and Carrot River/Arborfield (865 votes, 38 per cent) in Saskatchewan and ended up cruising to a provincial victory.
  • The biggest disparity in votes came from Manitoba. Flin Flon (5,287 votes, 71 per cent) netted over 3,000 more votes than Thompson (2,180 votes, 29 per cent). Flin Flon's reward is a date with Hudson Bay in the semi-finals.

The polls are open and it’s time to cast your votes in the 5th annual SledTown ShowDown. You can vote for your semi-final picks once a day until the current round closes.

Round 5 runs December 11, 2018 to January 1, 2019.

New to the contest? This is how it works: we start with 16 destinations from each Western province in Canada. Each round, our readers vote for their favourites and the destinations get whittled down.
