2020 SledTown ShowDown: Round 5 Update

Over 7,000 votes have been cast at the midway point of Round 5

by Kyle Born

The fifth round of SledTown ShowDown is halfway to its conclusion as the February 16 deadline approaches.

Here’s how Round 5—the final 4—is shaping up:

In the battle of 2020 SledTown ShowDown provincial champions from Alberta and British Columbia, Edson (51%), Alberta, has a narrow lead over McBride (49%), B.C. If the score holds up, this would be a major upset, considering B.C. has won the entire competition for four straight years, with McBride being crowned champion two years ago. A win here by Edson would ensure a totally new SledTown winner and break B.C.’s four-year streak at the top of the mountain. Can Edson hold on for the win? Will McBride be denied a spot in the finals? Stay tuned!

The provincial powerhouses of the prairie provinces are going at it in a tight tilt. Flin Flon (54%), Manitoba, has amassed the most votes through each round of the competition and continues rack ’em up versus Hudson Bay (46%), Saskatchewan. That being said, Hudson Bay is by no means out of it. Saskatchewan SledTowns had been floundering in the vote department prior to Round 5 but have managed to step it up and keep within striking distance of the leader of their rival province. Can Saskatchewan capture a cosmic comeback? Will the script remain the same with Flin Flon advancing on the strength of massive voter turnout? We’ll know in less than a week.

Total votes (so far) from all provinces in Round 5: 7,000!
