Snow angels give back

Snow angels give back

Angels may come in many forms, but on March 27 a group of Snow Angels arrived in Bruderheim on snowmobiles to purchase items for the Lamont and District Food Bank.

Darla Beck, spokesperson for the Fort Saskatchewan Snow Angels Snowmobile Club, said members usually hold a Santa’s Anonymous run before Christmas—but at a recent meeting, they decided to donate to a different cause.

“Snowmobilers usually get bad publicity, so we wanted to do something positive and give back to the community,” said Beck. “The community does a lot for us. They support us and open up their land for us to use, through landowner agreements, so we wanted to give back to them. We contacted Pastor Ron Wurtz and said we wanted to donate to the Lamont and District Food Bank, and he gave us a list of preferred food items such as peanut butter, pasta and hygiene products. We’re shopping at Bigway Foods in Bruderheim and we’ll be taking them over to the Alliance Church along with cash donations.”

Beck added the Fort Saskatchewan Snow Angels will be making this an annual event. Currently the club has some 50 families, or about 90 riders ranging in age from eight to 72. They meet at the Josephburg Hall every third Wednesday of the month from September to May at 7:30 p.m.
