More trails than you can count

Local clubs ensure that the riding here is always awesome

Ask Jim Kirby about the best places to sled around 100 Mile House and he won’t be short of places to list. As a member of three of the area’s clubs—the 100 Mile House Snowmobile Club, the Mica Mountain Riders Association and the Interlake Snowmobile Club—Kirby is extensively familiar with trails in the region.

“We’ve got a great area out here that borders Wells Gray Provincial Park and the Quesnel Highland,” he said. “We go from the border of Wells Gray and north over to Crooked Lake. It’s awesome riding.”

For families, Kirby recommends the areas groomed by the nearby Green Lake Snowmobile Club and the Interlake Snowmobile Club. Kirby said this is a resort-oriented area with numerous cottages that boasts many kilometres of groomed trails.

Kirby himself estimates that he has been sledding since the age of 10. Now the owner of Performance All Terrain & Rentals Ltd., he enjoys riding from November to April.

“Quite often Remembrance Day is our inaugural ride,” he said. “We’re fairly high elevation—the shop is 3,600 feet—so we keep our snow a little later than most places.”
