Canadian Council of Snowmobile Organization (CCSO), lead by executive director, Dennis Burns is pleased with the Conservation Party's election platform which speaks highly of snowmobiling in the Canada.
One of the key platforms of the Conservatives stated under the heading Improve and Expand Canada's Snowmobile and recreational Trails. On page 57 the Conservative platform document said, "The snowmobile was invented in Canada and, ever since, snowmobiling has been a hugely popular Canadian recreational actively. Our government has provided support to the National Trails Coalition for the a national initiative to create and improve snowmobile and all-terrain vehicle trails. To date our support has helped improve 500 trails across the country. We will build on this accomplishment, through additional funding for upgrades and new trails."
A few pages over the same document costed out the plan and indicated that the government was prepared to contribute $2.5 million each year for five year for a total of $10 million in trail upgrades and development.
It is little wonder then that Ed Klim, president of International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association (ISMA) in his opening address at the recent ISC in Calgary called Prime Minister Harper "a friend of snowmobiling."
