“There were 34 people who pledged, and 44 who rode—some were riding double,” said Susan McKie, a member of the Green Lake Snowmobile Club. “We had approximately 70 people who came to the clubhouse, so it was well attended.”
In total, the club raised $1,250 for the Lions. Because of the rally’s success, McKie said the club hopes to make it an annual event.
But whether there’s an event happening or not, sledders will enjoy a visit to the South Cariboo region. McKie said the trails in the area offer something for snowmobiling enthusiasts of every skill level.
“The trails have all been groomed and (volunteers) go out once a year to remove dead trees and make sure there’s no big rocks in the way,” she said. “There’s a good series of trails around here and they’re well maintained, so people who don’t have a lot of experience can still enjoy snowmobiling.”
McKie, who has been sledding for about 10 years, said she and her husband, Peter, have been members of the club since 1996. McKie said her favourite thing about snowmobiling is the challenge.
