Sue Guenette spent her childhood in the booming metropolis of Edmonton and did not grow up riding snowmobiles. However, when she and her husband, Dan, moved to Whitecourt and had their first child, they discovered a shared passion for snowmobiling.

“It was a good way to pass the winter because the winters can be kind of long,” said Sue. “That got us hooked—knowing that we like to be out doing something during the winter months.”

Now Sue and Dan have three children—a 17 year-old son, and two daughters aged 14 and 10. One of Guenettes’ favourite pastimes is to sled as a family.

“We started buying one sled after another,” Sue said. “We sled an awful lot as a family. There are five of us and there are five sleds . . . Our son is absolutely passionate about snowmobiling too.”

Lending a helping hand

Sue said that she and Dan are very active in the Whitecourt Trailblazers Snowmobile Club. Dan is the vice-president and Sue helps out wherever she’s needed.

The Guenettes identify Whitecourt as their favourite area to go trail riding, while for mountain riding they like to head out to Valemount.

“There is a lot of trail riding here and we often get off the beaten track because we know where we are going,” said Sue.
