A Revelstoke man who was caught stealing a RCMP "bait snowmobile" was sentenced to one year in jail in provincial court in early September. Ryan Matthew Hall was arrested by the RCMP following the theft of a “planted” bait sled and truck from the parking lot of Peaks Lodge in Revelstoke in the early hours of March 27, reports the local Revelstoke Review newspaper.
The snowmobile and truck were moved from the parking lot and brought to a residence, where the snowmobile was ditched inside a trailer, according to the newspaper's report.
Ryan Matthew Hall was arrested following a search of the home, where a second stolen snowmobile was found. Hall was put in jail while he awaited a trial. He pleaded guilty to theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property and resisting a police officer, and was sentenced in Revelstoke court on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016. said The Review article.
In Revelstoke provincial court, Crown prosecutor Bill Hilderman asked for a one year jail sentence plus another year of probation and a curfew. Judge Mark Takahashi questioned Hall’s willingness to change, noting he’d violated his probation before. “He seems to do well inside, but outside, not so good,” said Takahashi. “We go to the past to predict the future, and the past doesn’t look so great.” – further stated the Revelstoke Review article.
At the end of the trial, Judge Takahashi sentenced Ryan Matthew Hall to one year of jail time. Evidently a warrant continues to exist for the arrest of another man in connection with the bait sled and truck theft who fled from the scene evading capture, however RCMP were able to identify the man using video footage, revealed the local newspaper account.
