As you know, we here at SnoRiders magazine are always on the lookout for ol' sleds—those vintage snowmobiles tucked away behind woodsheds, stuck out in farmer’s fields or hidden away in an old barn or garage.
So recently I was surprised to see an old Moto-Ski (late 1970's vintage) sitting on top of a storage container in a nearby industrial park. I guess you could call it the ultimate hood ornament. Or maybe it is just a tribute to the sled's high-flying days of the past.
Obviously this rusting, relic of a Moto-Ski has seen better days, but I wonder what stories it holds and significance it has to its owner to be propped high on the corner of metal storage container for everyone to see as they pass by.
Moto-Ski was a prominent Canadian snowmobile brand. Moto-Skis were first manufactured in 1963. The Moto-Ski company of LaPocatière, Québec, Canada was purchased in 1971 by Bombardier, and integrated into the Ski-Doo line. The last year of production was 1985, though I believe the brand continues to exist in some European markets.
Rusty relic, vintage treasure or the ultimate hood ornament? You decide. Moto-Ski—one of Canada’s proud legacy names of the snowmobile industry.
