A sweet sled

Barry Guindon shares his story of two sled restorations

It’s been a while since I’ve sent in a story to the Old Sled Zone (a sweet set of sleds!). I thought I would share a couple of pictures of my two latest restorations. First is my 1981 Scorpion Sidewinder which I picked up in May. It was a mess and the guy who owned it used it for ice fishing!

The good thing is the motor runs great. Went through the entire sled and replaced what was necessary including a new Polaris clutch. The seat was shredded so I had it recovered by a great guy named Ray who did a wonderful job on a tough seat to copy. Fixed the cracks in the cowl and the broken windshield and gave it a paint job.

The sled turned out better than expected and I can’t wait to ride it. The second picture I sent is of my 1979 Kawasaki Invader 440. I stopped for the picture in Birds Hill Park just north of Winnipeg. I was actually out riding in April as there was still snow in the park.

This Invader has less than 150 miles on complete restoration. Almost every part on this sled is new. The sled is mint and I love driving it. Only thing not stock on it is the ski widening kit. This thing is fun to drive. Fast and stable. Anyway that’s it for now. Keep up the great work on your excellent magazine.
