With the advent of muffler cookers like the Hot Pot or the Muffpot, snowmobilers can now enjoy a warm meal while they are out on the trails.
Everyone has their own special “muff-pot recipe,” and there are plenty of recipes circulating around the Internet. Making meals in a muffler cooker can be tricky, though, because the meal may spill out of the cooker and make a mess in your sled if it is not wrapped correctly—but you definitely cannot use plastic wrap. The solution? Snackerpackers!
Invented by Linda Batterton and Jim Elam, who are avid snowmobilers from Oregon, U.S.A., Snackerpackers are heat-resistant mini bags that are custom-made to fit muffler cookers.
“How they work is that you put the food of your choice in the baggie and twist-tie (it) and put in the pot and you go ride,” said Batterton. “When you are ready to eat, your food is hot or warm for you.”
Batterton said that the amount of time it takes your meal to heat up will depend on how hard your snowmobile is working. If you are riding on groomed trails, your food will take longer to cook than if you were hillclimbing or boondocking in deep powder.
Batterton said she heats everything from frozen dinner packages to homemade chocolate chip cookies or apple turnovers with Snackerpackers.
“It’s great for leftover dinner,” said Batterton. “Put it in the baggie and place in a freezer until you are ready to ride. (It is) kind of a money saver.”
