Lots of important news out of the Canadian Avalanche Centre (CAC) in Revelstoke these days including the following three important announcements.
This news should be welcomed by snowmobilers and back country enthusiasts across Canada.
1. The Canadian Avalanche Centre has officially and legally changed its name to Avalanche Canada. New logo will be revealed on Oct 2.
2. CAC now has a new Snowmobile Coordinator to fill Carole Savage's position (although tough to replace!). Brent Strand is the new Snowmobile Coordinator for Avalanche Canada. As you may be aware, he has always been very active in outreach and avalanche education with the snowmobile community both through his employment with us and on his own time. He started working for the CAA first and the CAC (now officially called Avalanche Canada) for over 14 years. He supported Carole’s position for her term. He is an AST provider for snowmobilers and is an Active Member of the Canadian Avalanche Association. We are very excited that he has officially moved into this role.
3. Avalanche Canada Foundation (formerly the Canadian Avalanche Foundation) has finalized the Al Hodgson Memorial Fund. It can be found on their website. Donations to the Al Hodgson Memorial Fund will be used to award scholarships to support snowmobilers who wish to take recreational or professional level avalanche safety training (AST or CAA ITP). Please feel free to distribute this information about the new memorial fund.
