Snow bikes have been creeping into our snowmobiling films lately, but here’s one that is dedicated entirely to the one-ski phenomenon.
Trax: The Evolution of Snowbikes takes us on a captivating journey into the making of Timbersled, 2Moto, SnowXcycle, Yeti and other brands. It’s more of a documentary than a snow bike porn, and that’s what we like most about it.
The first few sequences of the film take us back to 1926 when the first snow bike was invented. From there, we get to see how snow bikes evolved from primitive tire-mounted track designs to the nimble, purpose-built machines we see in the backcountry today. With one-on-one interviews with designers and athletes, all your questions about snow bikes are answered.
Trax then picks up right where last year’s Braaap 14: Uncharted left off. British Columbians Reagan Sieg and Brock Hoyer are back at it, slaying the deep powder and laying down tracks in new territory. Pro freestyle motocross athlete Ronnie Renner is in the mix, too, as is Travis Pastrana of Nitro Circus (who, after this film, should become known as the near-naked Superman snow biker).
The film wraps up with practical information on the process of converting dirt bikes to run on snow.
So whether you are a snow bike fan or a snowmobiler who’s curious about how these things work, Trax is the film to get your hands on. To purchase, go to the Trax film website or visit iTunes.
