The fear of overheating has kept many a mountain snowmobiler, myself included, in non insulated gear—which is ideal for when you’re hitting up the deep stuff or chasing lines through the trees, but what about the trail ride home? Or those days when it’s really, really cold? It’s easy to take off your jacket and put on an extra layer or two, but what about your bottom half? Are you really going to take off your boots, strip down and put on an extra pair of thermals before heading back to the truck?
Comfort and convenience are what we appreciate about the new Clutch Bib from MotorFist. With 200-gram insulation throughout, it has just the right amount of bulk to keep us warm throughout the day, but not too much to make us sweat or restrict movement.
The adjustable powder gaiters are a nice touch as well, and the boot snaps make it impossible for snow to get in. The Clutch Bib is also reinforced on the seat, knees and lower legs, and it has removable padding in the knees.
As for durability, we feel the Clutch Bib could use some improvement since there were a few nicks here and there in the fabric at the end of the season. Overall, though, the Clutch Bib didn’t let us down and it kept us warm and dry from the deep days of December right through to the bluebird days of spring.
