Known as the City of Northern Lights, Melfort has a selection of popular trails that run across eye-catching wilderness territory. Melfort is snowmobile-friendly, and riders can easily go sledding within city limits.
The terrain is kept in great shape by the Melfort and District Trail Riders snowmobile club.
"Our most popular trail is 217A that runs from the City of Melfort to the Wapiti Valley ski hill at the Saskatchewan River," said Brian Hipkins, vice-president of the Melfort and District Trail Riders. "It is a 30-mile (48-kilometre) ride with the Lenvale warm-up shelter half way."
Staging areas are easy to find due to the fact that you can ride directly from Melfort. All snowmobiles must be licensed, and riders are asked to respect a 30 km/h speed limit within city limits. Aside from those mild restrictions, the trails are open to explore and consistently bring a host of eager sledders back every season.
