The Pas is one of Manitoba's finest snowmobile destinations, and if you visit, you'll immediately see why. There are a number of bush trails, picturesque lakes and vast open spaces, making up more than 350 kilometres of groomed terrain. Along these scenic routes, you can find seven well-maintained shelters for your convenience. Pick up a SnoPass for $150 and you're good to go.
The intriguing Atik Trail
The Atik Trail is approximately 24 kilometres long, and it meanders along the north side of Rocky Lake. It is well-maintained, and takes riders from the town of Wanless to Slippery Corner, after which they can travel south around the lake. It makes a fantastic day trip for families, as it boasts easy terrain and eye-catching views. If you're looking for a longer ride, you can always head north from Slippery Corner and travel through the Goose River area, then onward to Flin Flon, Manitoba.
To access this trail from The Pas, head north approximately 50 kilometres along the series of groomed trails until you reach Wanless. This small community offers the only gas station in the area for sledders, so be sure to fuel up. There is also a restaurant where local snowmobilers like to gather.
From Wanless, travel west and you will find yourself on the Atik Trail.
Don't forget Loppit Trail
If you're heading to Wanless, don't neglect to check out the trails along the way. Loppit Trail is a short route - 18 kilometres - that leads to Wanless, and it is well worth exploring. It runs along the eastern short of Root Lake, boasting the kind of twists and turns that snowmobilers crave. This trail typically has plenty of snow, and the bush riding and tree-lined terrain is enough to make you want to stop and take a photo.
