Gather at the cabin

With its mild temperatures and ample snowfall, Creston has plenty to offer sledders

Creston has everything snowmobilers dream of: scenery-rich alpine terrain, family-riding routes, plentiful snow and mild weather. There are a number of places where sledders go to carve the local powder, and the Kokanee Country Snowmobile Club is actively promoting the sport in this area.

A favourite gathering place for snowmobilers in and around Creston is the ungroomed Char Creek Cabin Trail. This trail is situated approximately 50 kilometres up the Kootenay Pass (watch for the spacious staging area on the left-hand side if you're coming from Creston.) You can sled for five kilometres before reaching the cabin, making this an ideal short route for families or beginners. The Kokanee Country Snowmobile Club takes good care of the cabin, providing ample seating and a wood stove.

In the nearby area, you can venture out to explore plenty of other trails that diverge from the vicinity of the cabin. Heather Lake is a pleasant location, but if you are a beginner it is best explored later in the season, as early season riding there can be dicey.

At the Char Creek Cabin, you will find a kiosk where contributions can be made to the local club to enable the continued maintenance of the trail system.
