Yorkton, in east-central Saskatchewan, is a truly snowmobiler-friendly destination. A bylaw allows riders to access the trails right from city limits and the local club, the Yorkton Sno-Riders, does an excellent job of making sure its 378-kilometre trail system is well suited for the entire family.
Most of the trails have warm-up shelters located along the way. According to club members, the Eagle Peak Warm-Up Lodge north of Yorkton is the most well maintained, making it a very popular place for riders to stop.
Popular riding destinations from Yorkton include Good Spirit Provincial Park, Greenwater Lake Provincial Park and Duck Mountain Provincial Park.
The Yorkton Sno-Riders is a strong, family-oriented club that was formed in 1990, which means that 2015 will be the club’s 25th anniversary. No details have been released on whether the club will be having a celebration, but if they do, it will likely take place during the Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association’s annual provincial snowmobile festival.
Next year, the festival will be happening in Yorkton. The dates are February 27 and 28, 2015, and you can register online through the SSA’s website.
A busy season lies ahead for the Yorkton Sno-Riders as they usually have a drag race, a family day and a fundraiser called Snowarama during the winter as well.
