Extreme snowmobilers have plenty of places to play in and around Smithers, but the area around Dome Mountain (known locally as “the Dome”) is where everyone can converge for a fun ride. To get there, head north of town on Highway 16. In about three kilometres you’ll see Babine Lake Road. Turn left and travel another 20 kilometres or so to the staging area. The parking lot is spacious, with a permanent lock block ramp for loading and unloading sleds.
Snowy meadows, tree riding and rolling hills complement the nearly 100 kilometres of nicely groomed trails at the Dome. An eight-kilometre cruise will take you to the Jason Elliot shelter. From here riders can play in the meadow, continue on a circle tour via Canyon Creek Forest Service Road or ride all the way into the mining town of Granisle.
Enjoy stunning mountain views and soft, rolling hills—but without the intense challenges of some of the other riding areas around Smithers. All trails are well-marked and wide open. Trail fees are $20 or free to members of the Smithers Snowmobile Association.
