Ron Charawich's motto: a bad day of sledding is better than a good day at work

by Michelle Carr Johnston

Born and raised in the Bonnyville area, Ron Charawich has a motto: A bad day of sledding is better than a good day at work. With 35 years of riding under his belt, Charawich often wonders if there is such thing as a bad day of sledding.

Currently Charawich has two sleds. One is a 2007 Arctic Cat M1000 with a 162-inch track with mods that bring it to around 195 HP; the other is a 2012 Arctic Cat M1100 Turbo that is modded up to 240 HP.

When asked about his dream sled, Charawich said, “I'm hoping that my 2012 M1100 Turbo is my dream machine. Due to the lack of snow and injuries, I only managed to get 300 miles on it, so I am anxious to get out this winter and see what she is capable of. I've always wanted to build a ground-up custom, but we'll see if that ever happens.”

As far as riding in the Bonnyville area goes, Charawich favours deep powder boondocking.

”I also enjoy trail riding and drag racing,” said Charawich, “although the drag racing scene is slowly dying.”

What was Charawich’s response when asked what the best thing about sledding in Bonnyville is?

”Everything!”
