Myles Nelson is passionate about the sport and the beauty of riding in Manitoba

Myles Nelson is a member of and serves on the board for the Lee River Snow Riders in eastern Manitoba. The club maintains over 200 kilometres of groomed trails plus new warm-up shelters for its members. Nelson, at 53, is passionate about sledding in the region and gave SnoRiders a peek into his love of the sport.

What year, make and model is your sled?

I drive a 2011 Ski-Doo GSX SE. It's great—like a big comfy couch. I'm more into comfort these days than into other aspects of sledding.

How long have you been snowmobiling?

I've been sledding for about 30 years and trail riding is definitely my favourite.

What was your first sled?

In the '60s, I had a family sled called a Hiawatha. 

What do you like most about snowmobiling in Manitoba?

I like the fact that the trails are well groomed (and) well maintained, and there is good signage. Basically this area is unparalleled anywhere else in Manitoba for scenery and enjoyment of sledding. You get to go through rivers, lakes, the Canadian Shield, forest and hilly areas all in one day.
