High Level's terrain is diligently maintained by the Watt Mountain Wanderers Snowmobile Club, which grooms and manages 350 kilometres of signed trails that run through wilderness Crown land.
One of the locals' favourite places to ride is the Watt Mountain Loop, a trail that heads west and then circles north and east around Watt Mountain. The route goes for 140 kilometres, offering hilly terrain and wide, well-groomed trails. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife.
Along the loop, there are three warm-up rest spots with firewood, outdoor washrooms, firepits and covered benches. There are also two cabins with wood stoves.
You can also take a side trail departing from the Watt Mountain Loop, and head to Hutch Lake, Footner Lake and other scenic areas.
The Machesis Lake Trail is another popular ride, and it leads north and east if you want to head back to the Watt Mountain trail system. When ice conditions are favourable, you may cross the Peace River, but be sure to check ahead of time to ensure that it's safe to do so.
