Westlock is a cozy little agricultural-based town in central Alberta, 85 kilometres north of Edmonton, and it is home to a dedicated club, the Pembina Drift Busters. With more than 150 kilometres of groomed trails to explore, Westlock is a magnet for snowmobilers.

Main snowmobiling trails in Westlock, AB 

Main Loop

Westlock's Main Loop boasts 40 kilometres of groomed trail, treed areas, gentle hills and a prairie landscape. Plus, a warm-up shack can be found along the way. Access to the Main Loop is easy — the staging area is located right off Highway 801 north of Westlock.

West Loop

This groomed trail can be accessed from across the Highway 801 staging area. It is a 30-kilometre loop that meanders around Bear Lake and all the way to the Ducks Unlimited Dam.

North Loop

The longest trail in the local snowmobile club's Long Island Lake Trail network, the North Loop offers more than 80 kilometres of hill-covered terrain. It takes sledders around Cross Lake Provincial Park and up to the club's second cabin. Sledders can also connect with the Trans-Canadian Snowmobile Trail.

Pembina Drift Busters 780-349-5287

The Pembina Drift Busters is an active group of about 70 to 90 like-minded individuals who protect, promote and care for the snowmobile trails in the Westlock area. The club hosted the Alberta Snowmobile Association's annual jamboree one year, and it was also awarded the ASA's Outstanding Snowmobile Club of the Year Award for 2012. The club also has a Facebook group.
