Visitors will love the warm atmosphere that exists in Big River. This sled-friendly town, once not as engaged in the sport as its eastern Saskatchewan counterparts, is becoming more and more active as a snowmobiling community.

“We are in an area where there is lots of forest,” said Barry Nontell, the owner of Timberland Motel. “And we have some really nice shelters that have wood supply, firepits and solar lights.”

Pleasant riding
If you wish to take the whole family out on a ride, Big River will meet your needs. The trails meander through wooded areas, keeping riders sheltered from harsh wind and cold weather. In terms of safety and comfort, this area can’t be beat.

“We don’t have any extreme conditions with lots of hills or steep stuff,” said Nontell. “You’re never too far from a shelter, so that way families can go and do things like have a wiener roast at the shelter. Our conditions are not dangerous. We’re lucky because we have the Trans-Canadian trail going through here—and we just got a new-to-us groomer. It just came Friday."
