The BC Snow Show, recently held in Vernon, raised over $13,000 for the Easter Seals Snowarama Kids campaign and was a great success—2015 was the first year that the BC Snow Show was a province-wide show. Admission was by donation and organizers are pleased to be able to give back to the community.
The Vernon Snowmobile Association is a not-for-profit organization and is one of the oldest snowmobile clubs in British Columbia. It is run by volunteer help alone, managed jointly with BC Parks and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts. The Club’s mandate is to provide maintained and groomed trails and warm-up shelters to users of its parks and forest areas, which it has been doing since 1967. The Vernon Snowmobile Association has had a working relationship with Silver Star Mountain since the beginning and the mountain offers a wide variety of terrain for all riders, but our trails are mostly geared towards relaxed family outings.
The Vernon Snowmobile Association for many years has organized and co-hosted Vernon’s Annual Snow Show with other local clubs. Snowmobile enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the Snow Show and it has evolved into a social event that the whole family can enjoy. The Snow Show is a great place to see what’s new in the industry and maybe get a great deal from one of the venders.
"This year the Vernon Snowmobile Association presented, along with the British Columbia Snowmobile Federation and Let’s Ride BC, a provincial Snow Show that was held at Kal Tire Place in Vernon. It was a 2-day event and vendors came from all over British Columbia as well as Alberta. We had just shy of 14,250 people travel from all over the western provinces as well as some from the United States. One of our main objectives this year was to push “Avalanche Awareness” and make sure people are aware of the dangers and are prepared for them.
The B.C. Snowmobile Federation and its member clubs have partnered with Easter Seals as its charity of choice and Snowarama as their official charitable fundraising event. This year, the Vernon Snowmobile Association agreed that all proceeds from the admission at the door for the BC Snow Show would go to Snowarama/BC Lions Society. Snowarama is a family-oriented fundraising event in which snowmobilers organize hill climbs, poker runs, rallies, or scavenger hunts in support of Easter Seal Services. The snowmobile industry has had a long standing relationship with BC Lions Society/Snowarama. It started in 1978 and snowmobilers have raised over $3.8 million for children with disabilities.
We are so honored to say that the generous community of snowmobilers donated an outstanding amount of $11,406 at the door from the BC Snow Show. The Vernon Snowmobile Association has also raised another $1684.95 so we have a cheque here in the total amount of $13,090.95! This is an amazing amount that will help send children to Camp Winfield and we are so very honored to be a part of that. We would like present Rick Harker, Manager of Camp Winfield with this cheque.
