Old Sled Sighting—1978 440 T’NT

A previous Old Sled Sighting article prompts a reader to submit a picture of his own 'ol' girl!', a 1978 Ski Doo 440 T'NT.

"Here is a picture of my 1978 Ski Doo 440 T'NT. She is all original except the primer and still starts on the first pull. Love this ol girl!” writes a SnoRiders reader. Photo: reader submission

One of the most popular snowmobiles Bombardier’s (now BRP) ever produced had to be their lineup of T’NT Ski Doo sleds. We recently featured a vintage 340 T’NT Ski Doo in this column – it was one we found sitting out in the open on a local hillside. Though exposed to the elements it still looked like, with just a little bit of TLC, this classic Ski Doo was ready to hit the trails once again.

Which prompted one of our SnoRider readers to submit a photo of his “showroom” condition T’NT Ski Doo. This sled is as shiny as the day it rolled off the production line in Valcourt, PQ.

This enthusiastic reader wrote, “Here is a picture of my 1978 Ski Doo 440 T'NT. She is all original except the primer and still starts on the first pull. Love this ol girl!”

What also caught our attention was this reader’s tagline:

Life’s journey is not to arrive at the grave safely
In a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways
Totally worn out, shouting, Holy Sh*t…What a Ride!!!”
Some take drugs, some tip bottles,
I solve my problems by TWISTING THROTTLES

(Live life LARGE)

This rider’s philosophy pretty much sums up the essence of the T’NT snowmobile as well.

As we mentioned in the earlier column Ski-Doo built tens of thousands of T’NTs snowmobiles. You can find them with everything under the hood from a 292 single cylinder to a 440 twin and the venerable Ski-Doo T’NT never lost its performance cache.

These old T’NT’s had a reputation of being workhorses as well as being tough as nails – and by-in-large reliable performers under even the most trying riding conditions.

Thanks to our SnoRider reader for submitting this great photo!
