Review: Mission XPE Goggle from FXR Racing

Looking for a new set of snowmobile goggles? The Mission XPE are one of the best and most comfortable goggles I’ve tried.

And I’ve tried several. Because I wear an open-style motocross helmet from Shift, a company that’s big into the dirt bike scene, my helmet isn’t actually designed for snowmobiling. I bought it because I loved the fit, the price was right and I needed a helmet that would serve both my summer and winter riding needs. I quickly discovered, however, that finding a pair of snowmobile goggles that fit with my helmet and wouldn’t fog up so badly that I couldn’t see half the time was next to impossible.

I found reprieve with Oakley brand goggles, but then the Mission XPE came along. Made by FXR Racing, these goggles have a pre-curved polycarbonate lens that is impact-resistant, anti-scratch and, of course, anti-fog. They also have a windproof, removable nose guard, which helps to direct your breath down through the bottom of the helmet. If you can ride with it on, you will likely have zero problems with fogging and your nose will be protected from the cold. But, if you’re a wind sucker like me, you’ll want to rip it off as soon as you have to start working.

Thank goodness, then, for the tri-density, oversized face foam. Not only does it make the goggle more comfortable to wear, but it also creates a nice tight seal against your face to keep the air out.

The Mission XPE goggles are one of my top choices when it comes to snowmobile goggles, but keep in mind that performance and fit will vary depending on what type of helmet you wear. When you are picking out a new set of goggles, bring your helmet into the store and try them on together. Manufacturers, like FXR, will engineer their goggles to fit perfectly with the same brand of helmet, so if your current lid is an FXR, then the Mission XPE are probably the ones you’ll want to target.
