It’s not every sled town that allows offloading your machine so you can slide up to the restaurant, drop your gear and enjoy a meal before scooting through town to get on the trails. The folks at Fox Creek, Alberta, put a bylaw in place to make this happen. This makes staging, accessing fuel, food and accommodation a snap. And it was a great way to kick off my day ride with the club!

Sno-Goers Snowmobile Club Fun
Northland Sno-Goers club volunteers maintain 360 kilometres of trail, about 120 of which are part of the Iron Triange route. The club keeps these well-maintained trails cleared, creek crossings filled in and trails groomed, offering snowmobilers a tremendous variety of riding options.
There are abundant flat areas where riders of all ages and skill levels can stretch the sled’s legs, plenty of access to cut lines and meadows, spots to go off and romp in the powder, or just stick to the well-groomed trails––a little bit of something for everybody. All the trails are easy to access.

Warmed Hands And Heart
Midway through our ride, we stopped for lunch at Trappers Cabin (Waypoint G on the Golden Triangle Map). As our machines cooled from a quick trail ride and our smokies sizzled over a toasty fire, another source of radiant heat fired up––the warm-hearted hospitality being heaped on the guest riders.
“That’s how we roll,” one of the club members commented, “everyone is welcomed.” Even the whiskey jacks welcomed us.

Sno-Goers Great Stops
Shelia Gilmour, President of Northland Sno-Goers (and Mayor of Fox Creek) said, “The trapper’s cabin is authentic. In the early years, the trapper let the club use it and then when he no longer needed his cabin for trapping, he donated it to the club. It's still set up with his bunk and everything he had in there. It's my favourite spot on the trail––I love that cabin.”
There are more cabins and places to warm up, make a fire and hang out for a break. Gilmour shared that her favourite spot on the Fox Creek side of the Golden Triangle trail is the Legion Lodge, with the best views of the Iosegun River Valley. The cabin, which was donated by the Legion, is located on the West Heavysound Trail.
It is astounding that sledders can access all of this for the price of an annual pass available online at The Golden Triangle or the Alberta Snowmobile Association. As an alternative, Trail/Day passes are available from Northland Sno-goers.
