Inviting the world and putting on an event that will delight riders of all ages, cultures and backgrounds are no easy tasks, but the Whitecourt Trailblazers are making it happen in Whitecourt, Alberta.
Plans have been set in motion and things are progressing well for the organizers of the World Snowmobile Invasion (WSI), taking place February 11 to 15, 2015.
Not one, but two committees have been formed. They’re made up of volunteers from the Whitecourt Trailblazers, the Town of Whitecourt, Woodlands County and the Town and County’s Joint Economic Development team. Members of the community of Whitecourt have also stepped up to offer support. So far, there are 50 volunteers working on this project.
And more are needed.
Right now, the Whitecourt Trailblazers are asking anyone who is interested in working at the WSI to fill out the application form. The club is looking for about 250 volunteers.
“It is expected that we will have (spent) over 5,000 hours in volunteer hours when the event is complete,” said Cindy Brooks.
Brooks is the WSI event coordinator and a long-time member of the Whitecourt Trailblazers. Over the years, she and her husband, Jeff, have assisted the club in organizing annual events—such as the club’s popular VIP and Media Ride.
The rewards have been many.
“It is a great opportunity to meet people and be a part of an amazing dedicated club,” said Cindy.
A volunteer-appreciation night will take place on February 10 at the Eagle River Casino in Whitecourt. Attendance is by invitation only, but all volunteers of the WSI will receive a WSI shirt in recognition of their efforts.
