Lac la Biche Lake has a lot to offer. It hasn’t garnered the attention that befits such a giving body of water, but that’s about to change.
Albert Moghrabi has been the owner/operator of Lac la Biche Source for Sports for 40 years. He’s eager to get the word out about what a hidden gem his home is. “I live in a log house on Lac la Biche Lake,” he said. “I do a lot of ice fishing on the lake. We’re always crossing it. We have snow drags here every spring. We get over 150 sleds that come down. It’s right on Lac la Biche Lake.”
Having one lake to sled on is all well and good, but when the surrounding area is bountiful with bodies of water, it’s hard not to notice. “The nicest thing about this whole place is having so much selection of which lake you want to go to,” said Moghrabi. “You can go to 10 lakes in a day. Each lake is different and has its own signature.”
Many options are available for riders in Lac la Biche but Moghrabi has a suggestion if you’re strapped for time. “If you go to Lakeland Park, you don’t need to go anywhere else,” he said.
Lac la Biche is seemingly designed for snowmobilers, not just for fun, but for practical purposes as well. “I snowmobile to get from A to B,” said Moghrabi. “I’m a functional driver.” Even so, Moghrabi racks up about 2,000 kilometres every winter.
“People don’t realize the potential here. It’s untouched,” he said.
If nothing else, it’s worth exploring Lac la Biche for the sake of adventure and patriotism. “It’s great being able to travel and see so many different spaces,” Moghrabi said. “This is the Canadian way of life.”
