Polaris reveals new Axys platform for 2015 snowmobiles

by Kirsten Armleder

Polaris is making sure 2015 will be a banner year by rolling out a brand new platform for its Rush and Switchback model sleds.

This platform, which is called the Axys, is designed to offer flatter cornering, improved rider control, a smoother ride over bumps and faster acceleration. To achieve this, Polaris altered the rider’s location, centralized vehicle mass and optimized suspension geometry.

Faster acceleration also comes from a brand new 800 HO engine, featuring three-stage electronically controlled exhaust valves, a lightweight crankshaft and a high-efficiency intake and exhaust. Polaris says this engine is lighter, runs smoother and offers more top-end power than its predecessor. The company also claims the Axys is lighter than last year’s chassis by more than 30 pounds.

Sleds that will be riding on the new Axys platform in 2015 include the 600 and 800 Rush Pro-S, the 800 Rush Pro-X, 600 and 800 Switchback Pro-S, 600 Switchback Adventure and 800 Switchback Pro-X.

The Pro-S trim package features a 1.25-inch Ripsaw II Track while the Pro-X package comes with a 1.75-inch Backcountry Track and taller handlebars. Both include Walker Evans Clicker shocks.

According to Polaris, the Pro-S trim package is ideal for aggressive trail riders while the Pro-X package is tailored more to the stand-up riders who love ditch banging and blasting over moguls.

For 2015, Polaris also brought in two new Indy models—the utility-based Adventure and Voyageur—and both are available in either 144- or 155-inch track configurations.

2015 will be a big year for Polaris—its 60th anniversary. To celebrate, the company will be offering special edition models. It has also expanded its snow check program. Riders can choose from over 20,000 colour and trim options.

Dream machine:

"The new Polaris Axys Pro-X is a dream come true for me. If you like ditch-banging and off-trail riding, the Axys Pro-X is perfect. The whole 2015 Polaris line up is amazing, but this one is my favourite."
