New Sinister X5 Goggles from 509 Inc.

by Kirsten Armleder

If you liked the original Sinister goggles from 509 Inc., then you’ll love the company’s new Sinister X5 Goggles.

Not only are they wicked to look at, but these goggles come with some great new performance features for 2014 as well.

First of all, let’s talk about the lenses. We all know that some of the best stuff comes from Italy, right? Well, the Sinister X5 Goggles feature new Italian-sourced polycarbonate dual lenses. The lenses come with an improved anti-fog coating as well as a more durable anti-scratch coating.

The company must know that fogging is a major cause of frustration among snowmobilers. To ensure the Sinister X5 Goggles stay completely fog-free, the engineers at 509 placed new edge pressure outriggers on the strap of the goggles. This small feature is designed to create a perfect seal along the outer edge of the goggles to provide a better fit and prevent the lenses from fogging.

The new Sinister X5 Goggles were engineered with Phantom frame technology. As the name implies, this technology allows the frame of the goggles to disappear out of the rider’s field of view. The Sinister X5 Goggles are also half an inch taller than the original Sinisters, providing the rider with 12.5 per cent more viewing area.

And finally, the new Sinister X5 Goggles feature a removable nose mask, which has also been restyled for 2014. The goggles come in 25 different colour choices—from simple black to bright pink or yellow. If you’re a fan of backcountry legend Chris Burandt or hillclimb champion Keith Curtis, you might opt for one of their signature pairs.
