Classic Rock Pants from Mason's Industrial Wear (a denim-dedicated outerwear company based in Vancouver, B.C.) were designed for snowboarding, skiing and other winter action sports, so we decided to give them the ultimate test: snowmobiling.
These pants look like jeans, fit like jeans and well, they are jeans, but they’re fully lined, 100 per cent breathable, abrasion resistant and water-repellent. They also have gaiters and elastic cuffs, which fit easily over snowboard boots, or in our case, snowmobile boots. The pants are unisex but they aren’t a one-size-fits-all kind of deal. The pants comes in regular jean sizes for 30- to 38-inch waists.
So how did the Classic Rock Pants measure up for sledding in the mountains? Well, my riding partner and I both tested them on separate occasions, and we found that they work best in spring when the conditions are a little more favourable. The pants indeed kept us dry, but we found that the denim material couldn’t keep the wind out, which made it difficult to stay warm when the temperature dipped below -5 C.
That being said, we also decided to test them for ATVing, and this is where they excelled. Because they are lined, the pants are great for spring and fall riding, when it’s cooler and you need that extra bit of insulation.
