Keeping a sharp edge on the carbide runners of your snowmobile just got easier with the release of the new BiteHarder carbide runner sharpening tool from Welch Manufacturing Technologies Ltd., a company based in New Hampshire.
The tool is designed to save sledders money and enhance both the machine's performance and the rider's sledding experience—while making the sled safer too. The new BiteHarder tool attaches to any corded, cordless or pneumatic-style drill that accommodates a ¼-inch shank.
On his company’s website, Glenn Welch, who is the president of Welch Manufacturing Technologies, said that the BiteHarder tool is easy to use and that it will put a sharp edge back on your runners in 15 to 20 seconds. And sledders don’t even have to take the runners off or be in the shop to use the tool. BiteHarder is portable, so riders can sharpen their carbides while they’re out on the trails.
It is a cost-effective tool, according to Welch.
“Replacement runners can cost upwards of $160 a pair,” he said in a January 2013 press release. “Priced at less than $60, BiteHarder will sharpen your runners 15 or more times before the tool wears out, representing a significant savings.”
This patented tool is CNC machined from alloy steel to precise tolerances. Industrial diamonds on the face of the tool give it the cutting media to sharpen carbide runners.
