A potentially life-saving tool

The Float 30 avalanche airbag from Backcountry Access is a must-have for anyone planning to ride in the mountains this season.

With sledding safety becoming more widely promoted, snowmobilers are getting smarter about their gear as well. The Float 30 avalanche airbag from Backcountry Access is a must-have for anyone planning to ride in the mountains this season. It can save your life by reducing the likelihood of being buried in an avalanche situation.

The airbag is contained in a 30-litre, panel-loading BCA backpack. The pack features pockets for a shovel and probe, along with a lined goggle pocket, waist belt pockets, diagonal ski carrying system, compression straps and interior pockets for other gear. The system weighs a total of eight pounds, making it lightweight and easy to carry.

Used in conjunction with a beacon, shovel, probe—and, of course, a helmet—this piece of equipment is an important survival tool for all snowmobilers, experienced or novice. Backcountry Access also recommends appropriate avalanche awareness and safety skills training before heading into the backcountry.
