The world needs to see that there is more to backcountry sledding than whipping a sled through the air and hucking it off a cliff. Don’t get me wrong, going big is a pretty awesome aspect of the sport, but it is only part of the story. What about the people, their personalities and the great lengths they will go to in order to sate their passion for six months of the year?

509 Volume 10 takes a step in that direction. Instead of throwing a constant stream of sled footage at the viewer, this film peers briefly into the lives of the industry’s top athletes—such as Chris Burandt, Brett Turcotte, Dave McClure and Rob Kincaid. Don’t worry, it’s not a documentary and there is plenty of epic sled footage to go along, but somehow, this film stirs up the right emotions to get us absolutely amped for the sledding season and the ensuing lifestyle.

In terms of the riding, though, 509 Volume 10 offers a decent mix of jumping, boondocking, snow biking, deep powder riding and the technical stuff. Chute climbers may be disappointed with the lack of footage in their genre, but those who love hillclimb racing will be delighted with the full RMSHA segment. And thanks to Turcotte’s alter ego, Turkey Reinhardt, there is some comedic relief in there as well.

With the storyline, stunning cinematography and seamless editing, 509 Volume 10 is a must-see—whether you are an avid sledder or not.
